Airfix A55208 Hawker Typhoon Mk.Ib Fighter-Bomber 1/72nd Scale Gift Set
The Hawker Typhoon was one of the Second World War"s most potent ground attack planes, and was one of the first planes to provide "close air support". Leading up to D-Day, the Typhoon had been used to great effect in attacks on German radar installations along the French coastline.
Initially designed to replace the Hawker Hurricane as the complementary high-altitude fighter to the Supermarine Spitfire, the Typhoon instead found its fame as a low altitude ground-attack aircraft, spearheading the airbourne assault through occupied Europe after D-Day. Designed around the enormous 24 cylinder Napier Sabre engine, the Typhoon had a tough gestation before maturing as a capable, low level fighter bomber, devistating German armour in Normandy and beyond.
