The Tornado forms one of NATO’s most successful and versatile weapon systems and has already proven its worth in many conflict situations. At the start of any conflict, RAF Tornados equipped with ALARM guided weapons are among the first allied aircraft to enter enemy airspace on their dangerous air defense mission. Hereafter, other Tornado units can safely follow and fly precision bombing raids and enemy positions. The large 2250-liter auxiliary tanks also give RAF Tornados exceptional range. Top speed is 1340 km/h at 150 m altitude.
